Wegmans Price Freeze Continues with Some Changes

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Wegmans announced Thursday their popular price freeze promotion will continue, but with some changes to the products included.

The new 'winter' price freeze will take effect on Sunday, January 8th and continue through April 28th, even if prices go up. The list includes more than 50 products, they say, families use most.

Twenty-seven items on the original list are carried over with 25 new ones added, including canned soups and cough and cold medicine. Peanut butter, coffee and tuna are some of the products not on the list this time around.  Jo Natale, director of Media Relations, says because the price of those products has increased so much, it was no longer possible for Wegmans to guarantee a retail price.

Coaches vs. Cancer Game to Raise Funds for Jimmy V. Foundation

West Seneca’s modified basketball teams will take a shot at fighting cancer this winter. The boys and girls teams will participate in the second annual Coaches vs. Cancer event tonight, Friday, Jan. 6 at West Middle School, 395 Center Road, West Seneca.

The fundraiser will feature a doubleheader between cross-town rivals West Seneca East and West Seneca West. The girls will compete at 4:30 p.m. and the boys’ game will follow at 6 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer will also include fan challenges at intermission, face painting and plenty of school spirit. Last year’s event drew nearly 500 spectators, so the student athletes and coaches are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.

“That makes it a truly unbelievable showcase of the West Seneca’s middle school student athletes,” said Jason Overton, East modified boys basketball coach, who encourages the community to attend the event.

West Seneca Woman Sentenced In Fatal Hit And Run

Buffalo, NY - Despite a plea for probation by her attorney, 29-year old Lori Maciejewski was sentenced in front of a packed courtroom Wednesday, to a term of two to six years in jail for leaving the scene of a fatal hit and run accident without reporting it.

Her attorney Sunil Bakshi said, "I think the Judge did what he though was  appropriate and fair. We were hoping for a sentence of probation. The judge did what he thinks was fair."

Maciejewski pleaded guilty late last year to hitting 18-year old Ryan Purcell in October as he was walking along Seneca Street.

Maciejewski admitted to having some drinks that night, but refused to admit being intoxicated.

"We feel, and our investigation reveals that she had some type of sleep disorder, and the alcohol, not rendering her unable to drive may have exacerbated her condition," said Bakshi.
