Explore London’s Public Parks and Gardens Year-round

The calendar says that winter has come and gone, and thoughts are quickly turning to outdoor activities. Nearby London, Ontario, boasts many natural areas throughout the city that are open year-round, including popular destinations such as Kilally Meadows, Meadowlily Woods, Medway Valley Heritage Forest, Sifton Bog, Warbler Woods and Westminster Ponds ... all awaiting your visit!

Natural areas include wetlands, meadows, forests, valley lands and other relatively undisturbed lands that are home to many different plants and wildlife. Some locations even contain rare plants, wildlife or landforms. In fact, many of these natural areas are considered environmentally significant on a local, regional, provincial or even national scale!

South Buffalo Alive Announces Successful ‘Bricks in the Bowl’ Campaign

 

Twenty engraved bricks were added to South Buffalo Alive’s “Bricks in the Bowl” in Cazenovia Park in early September. The 20 bricks were a one-year record for the fundraising event, according to Marge Ryan, president of the nonprofit organization.

“Bricks in the Bowl” is located next to the 100-year-old Frederick Law Olmsted Shelter House in Cazenovia Park and includes 250 square feet of personalized bricks within a landscaped perimeter. Brick engraving, provided by Stone Art Memorial Co. of Lackawanna, occurs just one time per year, typically in late summer or early fall.

The Valley Community Association is pleased to announce that on August 26, 2013, the center will be hosting its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Lancaster Country Club. Lunch and registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes soda, grilled chicken, Italian sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and desserts. 

The 4 person scramble format will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Beer and refreshments on the course. The tournament dinner will be catered by BW’s Barbecue and take place at Buffalo River Fest Park, 249 Ohio Street, Buffalo, NY, 14203, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be great prizes for the various contests.

The cost per golfer is $100. Limited transportation in mini-buses will be available.

The Friends of Mill Road, the Western New York Land Conservancy and the Town of Aurora are very pleased to announce that they have received two challenge gifts for a total of $150,000. Town Supervisor Jolene Jeffe stated, “We are so incredibly grateful to these two families for their leadership contributions that will create a community asset with extraordinary benefits for our entire region. We know that the overlook will enhance the economic vibrancy of our community and the health and enjoyment of our children and families by providing a new place to experience this incredible view.”

Erie County Legislators Lynne Dixon, Joseph Lorigo, John Mills and Edward Rath, in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension – Erie County, are pleased to announce that two informational meetings to highlight the many exciting programs available through 4-H will be held in November. With an extensive list of opportunities available to youths, ages 5-19, the informational meetings will discuss what programs are offered and how to get involved.
