West Seneca’s modified basketball teams will take a shot at fighting cancer this winter. The boys and girls teams will participate in the second annual Coaches vs. Cancer event tonight, Friday, Jan. 6 at West Middle School, 395 Center Road, West Seneca.

The fundraiser will feature a doubleheader between cross-town rivals West Seneca East and West Seneca West. The girls will compete at 4:30 p.m. and the boys’ game will follow at 6 p.m.

Coaches vs. Cancer will also include fan challenges at intermission, face painting and plenty of school spirit. Last year’s event drew nearly 500 spectators, so the student athletes and coaches are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.

“That makes it a truly unbelievable showcase of the West Seneca’s middle school student athletes,” said Jason Overton, East modified boys basketball coach, who encourages the community to attend the event.
